The task of a system integrator is to plan the LON network and thus define the structure and required network components (backbone, bridges, routers, repeaters).
The desired functionality within the building is achieved through the use of application-specific sensors and actors. These sensors and actors are functionally and logically linked to each other using a binding tool such as Echelon LonMaker. With this process all components (nodes) receive a definite assignment (binding) which transmitter node has to send informations (measurements, operating modes, alarms) to which receiver node.
During commissioning, the LON modules used are assigned their individual network address and the functional links (bindings) are transferred. Using special software from the manufacturer of the LON modules, the so-called LNS plug-ins, the system integrator can configure the properties of the individual components.
