Special functions and project adaptation

Project specific customisation options of the LABCONTROL system

A system with maximum flexibility

TROX offers maximum flexibility in project-specific solutions based on perfectly harmonised hardware and software components as well as extensive experience with a large number of laboratories equipped with LABCONTROL

The LABCONTROL fume hood controller provides a wide range of possibilities for implementing special functions and types of operation as well as the integration into higher order systems of central building controls.

Types of operation / special functions

Selectable monitoring mode
Monitoring of volume flow and/or intake speed (configuration setting)

Adjustable visual, acoustic and central alarm trigger

  • Type and duration of alarm signalling (configuration setting)
  • Alarm suppression in certain types of operation, e.g. night operation (configuration setting)
  • Alarm forwarding to central building control system via relay contacts (digital output)
  • TCU-LON-II only: alarm forwarding to central building control system via communication system (LON)

Switching between types of operation and thus between different volume flow set values
  • Possible types of operation: full shut-off, night operation, normal operation, emergency operation, fully opened
  • Individual volume flow set values for specific types of operation (configuration settings)
  • Switching between types of operation:
TCU-II: via switching contacts (digital input)
TCU-LON-II: via switching contacts (digital input) and via the communication system (LON)

Monitoring of the opening width of the sliding window according to DIN EN 14175
  • Connection of a window contact (digital input)
  • Alarm trigger if sliding window opening > 500 mm

Summation function for variable volume flows - TROX addition element (TAG)
  • Individual definition as supply / exhaust air volume flow (configuration setting)
  • Inclusion of volume flows into the room balance
    • TCU-II: summation of up to 7 variable volume flows via analogue inputs
    • TCU-LON-II: summation of up to 16 variable volume flows via LON data points

Summation function for up to 3 constant volume flows
  • Individual definition of supply / exhaust air volume flow (configuration setting)
  • Inclusion of volume flows in room balance
Optional: Inclusion of volume flow value only if switching contact has been activated (digital input)

Integration of fume hood controller into room control system with diversity factors
  • TCU-II: volume flow limitation for diversity function via analogue input
  • TCU-LON-II: volume flow limitation for diversity function via LON data point

Integration of a motion sensor for presence monitoring
  • Connection of the motion sensor via switching contact (digital input)
  • When the fume cupboard is open and there is no motion in front of the cupboard
Acoustic signal and flashing yellow LED >> i.e. please close cupboard >> increased safety
  • No motion in front of fume cupboard:
Reduction in intake speed from 0.5 m/s to 0.3 m/s >> energy savings

Note:
The special functions and types of operation listed below can all be implemented on fume hoods using LABCONTROL controllers. Note that the number of free inputs and outputs on the TCU-LON-II and TCU-II systems differ and that this may limit the number of functions that can be used at the same time.

More detailed information on the number of free inputs and outputs can be found in the respective product information. To check wether the planned special functions can be realized with the selected controller type, we recommend consultation with our LABCONTROL experts.
