NEW ZEALAND CHOOSES MULTI SERVICE CHILLED BEAMS
TROX MSCBs are installed in the iconic Wellington Building in New Zealand
The popularity of MSCB is spreading worldwide with TROX installations in USA, Europe, Far East and Australasia.
The latest addition to this impressive export project list is 86 Customhouse Quay in Wellington, New Zealand. The Historic Places Trust Category B building has been substantially refurbished because it was one of the few historic buildings remaining in the capital of such grand proportions, being recognised for its grand architectural features both inside and out, including the vaulted foyer, marble columns and impressive entrance.
Owners, AMP Capital Investments, undertook a very sympathetic refurbishment of what is a much admired iconic Wellington building, with the objective to provide a modern air-conditioned office space.
With the architectural freedom offered by the TROX MSCB system a special design was developed that included an intricate wing detail which met the high aesthetic standards required on this project.
The requirement included both passive and active MSCB which incorporated the lighting, PIR, cooling and cabling. The local project management was provided by TROX representative, Cooke Industries, and the main contractor was Fletcher Construction.
David Miller, TROX Project Manager, said that the active beams were a 4 pipe heating and cooling unit which required detailed analysis to ensure good air distribution during both summer and winter conditions.
Since this was a refurbishment project there were a number of co-ordination issues so that the old structure and supports could be retained, and these were resolved by utilising these special MSCBs.
